Last year, we saw the Poco X3 Pro, Poco F3, and Poco M3 Pro 5G being some of the bestselling budget-oriented smartphones to be released on our shores. In 2022, the independent brand which started life as a Xiaomi sub-brand is back with another two new devices that could be just as popular, if not more. We take a closer look at the new Poco X4 Pro 5G and the Poco M4 Pro, including their price and availability in Malaysia.
Poco X4 Pro 5G
The Poco X4 Pro 5G succeeds the Poco X3 Pro nearly a year after the latter’s release. Besides the welcome addition of 5G, the newer device also sports a vastly different back design with a huge rectangular camera bump replacing the circular outline. It looks and feels more premium too, as we say hi to glass and bye to plastic.
Both devices carry the same-sized displays with a 120Hz refresh rate, but the AMOLED screen on the Poco X4 Pro 5G will give you brighter images with better viewing angles and more vivid colours. Battery-saving is also one of its benefits as the individual pixels on an AMOLED display can be turned off when displaying the colour black. In contrast, all the pixels in an LCD screen are always-on.
The primary camera on the newer phone is also given a massive upgrade. If you are an avid phototaker, the new 108MP sensor will be a top reason to upgrade to this phone. That said, it is not all good news as the front selfie camera has been downgraded from 20MP to 16MP.
Another hardware difference worth noting is that while the Poco X4 Pro 5G includes a slightly smaller battery capacity, it benefits from a much higher charging speed. With 67W fast charging, the phone can go from 0% to 100% in just 40 minutes.

Poco X4 Pro 5G Price And Availability In Malaysia
The Poco X4 Pro 5G retails at RM1,199 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant while the beefier model with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage goes for RM1,499.

Poco M4 Pro
The Poco M4 Pro is the direct successor to the Poco M3 Pro and its 5G variant. While the non-5G model never officially made it to our shores, the Poco M3 Pro 5G was released here in June 2021 with prices no higher than RM800. It remains one of the most affordable 5G phones you can buy in Malaysia today.
Now here’s when things might get a little confusing. Less than half a year after the release of the Poco M3 Pro 5G, the company officially debuted the Poco M4 Pro 5G in Malaysia with higher price tags, but is still under RM1,000. Still keeping up?
“So, why should I get the newer Poco M4 Pro when I can go for the 5G version to enjoy 5G in Malaysia,” you ask? Well, besides the lower price of the Poco M4 Pro in Malaysia, it also comes equipped with a few specs upgrades that might matter more to you than having the latest mobile network.
You will find a more compact but better display quality with AMOLED technology. The Poco M4 Pro also packs a higher-megapixel main camera and an extra third macro camera. Below is a more detailed look at the specs comparison.

In Malaysia, the Poco M4 Pro’s price tag starts at RM899 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model. It is also available in a 8GB RAM + 256GB variant, which will cost RM1,099.
In comparison, the Poco M4 Pro 5G in Malaysia sports a price tag of RM849 (4GB RAM + 64GB storage) and RM999 (6GB RAM + 128GB storage) respectively.
