The #BaikBeliPoco Craze Is Back In Malaysia With The New Poco X3 Pro and Poco F3

The Poco X3 Pro and Poco F3 have arrived on Malaysian shores. They were the first Poco phones to launch here this year, following the Poco M3 which was released in late 2020. No doubt the new phones once again bring back the spotlight on the Poco brand and its beloved hashtag within the local smartphone community. Time to #BaikBeliPoco again, anyone?

For the benefit of readers who might be hearing it for the first time, the Poco brand was born in 2018 as a series of mid-range smartphones under the Xiaomi umbrella. Its debut phone—the Pocophone F1—was a huge success thanks to its flagship-level specs with an incredibly competitive price. It then went on to release a succession of phones in the same mould, which won the brand a huge dedicated fanbase. In November 2020, Poco ventured out to be an independent brand.

The Poco brand enjoys huge popularity in several countries, including Malaysia. The endearing #BaikBeliPoco hashtag was born as a means of insinuating that buying a Poco phone is a smarter decision than throwing all your money on pricey flagships.

Picture a smartphone with the following specs: a 120Hz high refresh rate display with 240Hz touch sampling rate, Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 processor, up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, a quad-camera system, and a generous 5,160mAh battery. What would a smartphone decked out with this set of hardware normally cost?

If you think it’s impossible for such a device to carry a three-digit price tag, say hello to the new Poco X3 Pro. The base model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage costs just under RM1,000.

Specs aside, it also has a few features that make it highly appealing to users. Its dual stereo speakers and dedicated cooling technology (coupled with the high refresh rate display and big battery) make this an awesome gaming phone.

It also offers NFC, a 3.5mm audio headphone jack, and an IR blaster—features that are increasingly rare in the present era of smartphones and dearly missed by many consumers. On top of that, it comes included with a 33W fast charger in-box.

The Poco F3 Ups The Ante With A More Powerful Chipset

The Pocophone F1’s proud legacy is held up by the Poco F3. It packs even more performance that includes a Snapdragon 870 chipset and 5G support.

The display is an upgrade from the X3 Pro. While the 120Hz high refresh rate stays the same, the F3’s AMOLED display boasts an even higher touch sampling rate at 360Hz. Furthermore, it features HDR10+ with a peak brightness of 1,300 nits.

Of course, it comes with a higher price tag too. The F3 also doesn’t have as big of a battery as its more affordable counterpart—offering a 4,520mAh unit instead. To add to that, it gives users three cameras at the back, which, although lacks a depth sensor, doesn’t affect the user experience in the grand scheme of things.

Similar features with the X3 Pro include dual stereo speakers, a cooling system, NFC, and an IR blaster, with a 33W fast charger included. No love for a 3.5mm headphone jack though.
