The Realme 8 Pro Is The First In The Family With A 108MP Primary Camera
Remember the world’s first smartphone to boast a 108-megapixel lens? The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 (known as the Xiaomi CC9 Pro in China) was announced in 2019 and subsequently released in Malaysia later that year with a starting price of RM2,099.
Then, it was Samsung’s turn to adopt the 108MP camera with the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra. They are top-of-the-line flagship phones and also some of the most expensive ones in the market.
The high-resolution camera eventually made its way to more affordable devices like the Redmi Note 10 Pro and now, the realme 8 Pro in Malaysia. In fact, this is the first realme phone to feature a 108MP camera, which will let users take highly-detailed shots.
The realme 8 Pro also has an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP monochrome lens to complete the quad-camera setup. Up-front, it gets a 16MP selfie camera.
Charge Up To 50% In Less Than 20 Minutes
Like many new mid-range phones released in Malaysia, the realme 8 Pro packs a big battery with fast charging technology. With the 50W SuperDart Charge feature, the realme 8 Pro can go from 0% to 50% in just 17 minutes of charging. Meanwhile, a full 100% charge will take less than 50 minutes to complete. Considering the phone has a sizeable 4,500mAh battery, the fast charging speed is a decent one—albeit not the fastest we have seen.
You’ll also be glad to know that realme has included a 65W charger adapter in the box, so you can take advantage of the fast charging feature right away without needing to purchase additional accessories.
The Realme 8 Pro Makes For A Decent Mid-Tier Gaming Phone
Powering the realme 8 Pro at the core is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor. This particular chipset enhances the mobile gaming experience with select Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features. It includes smooth HDR gaming and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive audio that combines to create a good gaming performance.
Some of the other phones rocking the Snapdragon 720G chip include the Samsung Galaxy A72, Oppo Reno5, and the vivo V21e.
How Does It Fare Against Its Predecessor, The Realme 7 Pro?
With every new iteration, we expect it to be better than the one it succeeded in every way. That may be true in most cases, but the realme 8 Pro improves on last year’s realme 7 Pro just as much as it sees some notable downgrades.
Without question, the new device’s biggest upgrade over its predecessor is its 108MP camera. It is a huge jump from the 64MP camera on the realme 7 Pro. However, the realme 8 Pro loses some grounds in some other features. For example, the realme 7 Pro has a better front-facing camera and an even faster-charging speed. At this point, we should also point out that the newer phone actually has a lower price tag.
