Let\u2019s get right into it. What is MYDIN\u2019s take on <\/b>baju raya <\/i><\/b>colour<\/b> trends for <\/b>2023<\/b>?<\/b><\/p>\n

We\u2019re looking at three main colours for <\/span>2023\u2019s <\/span>baju raya<\/span><\/i> colour trends<\/span>\u2014lavender, red, and black. While the first two colours are derived from 2023\u2019s colour trend forecast by Coloro and <\/span>Worth Global Style Network<\/span>, black is inspired by the movie, <\/span>Mat Kilau<\/span><\/i>, which was a big hit last year. Since the main character primarily wore black in the movie, we have not only ordered more black <\/span>baju raya<\/span><\/i>, we have also come up with <\/span>tanjak-<\/span><\/i>\u00a0and <\/span>keris-<\/span><\/i>shaped<\/span> baju melayu<\/span><\/i> buttons<\/span><\/a> for those who want to be different, particularly the younger generation.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are some of the best-selling<\/b> baju raya<\/i><\/b> designs and styles of late?<\/b><\/p>\n

For the men, they don\u2019t necessarily go for <\/span>baju melayu<\/span><\/i> only. In the last two years, they tend to wear the kurta with <\/span>pants<\/span><\/a> or even<\/span> jeans<\/span>. It\u2019s a bit more flexible, and you don\u2019t have to wear the <\/span>sampin<\/span><\/i><\/a>. You can wear it on the first, second, or third day of <\/span>Raya.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

As for the ladies, they tend to go for <\/span>baju kurung Riau<\/span><\/i>, the more shapely version of the <\/span>baju kurung<\/span><\/i>. We also noticed that embroidered pieces do very well. So our <\/span>baju kurung<\/span><\/i> this year will feature a minimal touch of embroidery. People are going back to simplicity these days, and what we\u2019re offering is more subtle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Can you give us a sneak peek of MYDIN\u2019s <\/b>Baju Raya<\/i><\/b> Collection for 2023?<\/b><\/p>\n

What we\u2019re going for this year is \u2018classic\u2019 instead of fashion that\u2019s trendy. As we cater to the M40 and B40 groups, we want to be able to offer them evergreen pieces that they can wear beyond\u00a0 just <\/span>Raya<\/span><\/i>, say, for work the next week. The collection will comprise <\/span>baju melayu<\/span><\/i>,<\/span> kurta<\/span><\/i>,<\/span> baju kurung Riau<\/span><\/i>,<\/span> baju kurung Pahang<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>kebaya<\/span><\/i> with a modern twist. We will also have traditional clothing in plus size and matching sets for mum and kids<\/span>. <\/span>As for the colours in the collection, there will be lavender, red, and black, as well as classic pink, earthy colours, and green. We will be introducing the collection in early March, so stay tuned!<\/span><\/p>\n

While simplicity is at the heart of our <\/span>baju raya<\/span><\/i> designs this year, they may be too plain for some people. To enhance the look, we have various types of <\/span>dokoh<\/span><\/i><\/a> (traditional necklace). And even that, we noticed that the <\/span>dokoh<\/span><\/i> has gone back to basics, so you\u2019ll find the single <\/span>dokoh<\/span><\/i> or the usual trio.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We will also be introducing a new set of brooches that are longer in shape compared to the circular ones. I learned from my wife, Datin Siti Hawa, that the latter tend to droop, which doesn\u2019t help the <\/span>tudung<\/span><\/i> stay in place. This new range will come in gold, silver, rhodium, and crystals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from <\/b>baju raya<\/i><\/b>, festive decorations, and household furnishings, are there any <\/b>Raya<\/i><\/b> specials that customers can look forward to purchasing at MYDIN?<\/b><\/p>\n

Cookies<\/span><\/a>. People want a variety where they can choose between smaller jars of cookies or slightly more premium cookies, depending on their needs. So we\u2019ll cater to both this year. We\u2019ll still have the basic cookies, but we\u2019ll also bring in premium <\/span>pineapple tarts<\/span><\/a> as people would buy them for gifting.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the spirit of gifting, we\u2019ve come up with lots of ready sets that would make for wonderful and meaningful gifts. In our ladies\u2019 Muslim set\u2014and people love this\u2014we have a <\/span>prayer mat<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>lycra<\/span> telekung<\/span><\/i><\/a>, and brooch. These lycra <\/span>telekung<\/span><\/i> will be plain and come in a variety of colours. Similarly, for the men, we have a set consisting of a <\/span>kain pelikat<\/span><\/i><\/a>, prayer mat, and <\/span>baju melayu<\/span><\/i> button<\/span><\/a>. We always believe that when people make <\/span>doa<\/span><\/i>, God gives back to you. So this is a good gift to get someone. They will be available on our Shopee and MYDIN outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are two months away from celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Have you started your Raya preparations at home? What does it usually entail?<\/b><\/p>\n

You know, we live a very simple life. So it\u2019s basically just <\/span>baju raya<\/span><\/i> that needs preparation. For that, my wife (pictured above) will have to decide what colour to get. She loves Malaysian <\/span>batik<\/span><\/a>, and since we\u2019re going to Kelantan for work, my wife has asked to visit some batik shops there. I hope she can decide then which batik she wants to buy, and from there on, we can choose our<\/span> baju raya<\/span><\/i> colour theme for 2023<\/span>. I<\/span> didn\u2019t mention it just now, but we will have a massive range of batik coming to MYDIN too.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you<\/b> had to choose a colour now, what would it be?<\/b><\/p>\n

Well, I was hoping my wife would just choose lavender as our <\/span>baju raya<\/span><\/i> colour theme so I don\u2019t have to get another set. But knowing her, and it\u2019s <\/span>Raya<\/span><\/i> for that matter, it\u2019s always nice to have something new. Black would be nice because of <\/span>Mat Kilau<\/span><\/i>. I think everyone must have a black <\/span>baju melayu <\/span><\/i>anyway. That would be something different for me because I\u2019ve never had a black <\/span>baju melayu<\/span><\/i> for Raya.<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you look forward to most every <\/b>Raya<\/i><\/b>?<\/b><\/p>\n

Life is such that we\u2019re always tied up with work. So this is the time for family. You get a few days where you can actually just spend time with them.<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s a typical <\/b>Raya <\/i><\/b>like in the Mydin household?<\/b><\/p>\n

We don\u2019t have big open houses. Fortunately, my mother stays with me, so everybody gathers at my house. After morning prayers, we usually have lunch together before going somewhere for a day or two. When we\u2019re back, we attend corporate open houses to meet up with friends and taste some excellent food.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are some must-haves on your <\/b>Raya<\/i><\/b> menu?<\/b><\/p>\n

You know, I think my wife tends to be a bit more conservative with her Raya dishes, so she always cooks <\/span>rendang<\/span><\/i><\/a> with <\/span>ketupat<\/span><\/i><\/a> and <\/span>lontong<\/span><\/i>. I think these are our must-haves. She not only cooks for the house, she also distributes food to our neighbours, which is part of Malaysian hospitality.<\/span><\/p>\n

She always bakes one or two types of <\/span>cookies<\/span><\/a> too. I\u2019ve asked her why she bakes when MYDIN sells so many types of cookies. But you know, it\u2019s not the same. She wants to do something, and if that makes her happy, why not?<\/span><\/p>\n

What are some of the most memorable Raya moments you\u2019ve had?<\/b><\/p>\n

My most memorable moments were when my father was alive. He passed away when he was 88. Of course, we all want a long life for our parents but life is such. I think being with your family is the most memorable part.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the end of the day, it\u2019s good to have at least one meal with your family at home and it could be a very simple meal. I think families are not so demanding. We tend to think they are, but I think all of us, as we grow older, just want to have a meal together. If it\u2019s so difficult, one <\/span>nasi goreng<\/span><\/i> will do<\/span> lah<\/span><\/i>. I make very good <\/span>nasi goreng<\/span><\/i>. At least, I think so [laughs].<\/span><\/p>\n
