• Gentle enough to be the first-line treatment for all skin condition in cats, and also dogs with sensitive skin

• 3% benzoyl peroxide for the most reliable way to treat fungal infections in SE Asia’s tropical climate

• Antimicrobial, more effective against fungus/yeast than bacteria (both are microbes)

• Keratolytic properties of benzoyl peroxide accelerate the removal of dead or infected/damaged outer skin cells so new cells can grow, speeding up recovery

• Thanks to its follicular flushing ability, this is the perfect adjunctive therapy for use before applying Dechra’s LimePlus Dip (see our other listings)

• Also highly effective in resolving seborrhea and oily skin

Malaysia’s hot and humid weather presents unique challenges to fungal/yeast infections in pets. Fungi can live off both your pet’s skin oil and water. Regular antifungal shampoos that use chlorhexidine and an azole antifungal (Malaseb, Curaseb, Veterinary Formula Antifungal etc) are not effective for more than 50% of dogs and cats in SE Asia. Why?

One, 2% chlorhexidine is useless against fungi topically – studies showed that at least 3% is required. Two, azoles only stop the growth of fungi – it will depend on your pet’s immune system to kill the fungi. That’s a bit ironic since if your pet’s immune system were strong enough, it would not have allowed the fungi to cause an infection in the first place.

Even if a regular antifungal shampoo works for your pet, you’re likely to find that it wouldn’t work for long. It may stop working after a few months under Malaysia’s tropical climate.

The most reliable way to solve your pet’s fungal problems is with a benzoyl peroxide (BPO) shampoo like the Vetoquinol BPO-3. BPO is a powerful astringent that will keep your pet’s skin dry and free of oil or moisture. When the fungi have nothing to feed on and sustain life, they will die.

This means that you will have to bathe your pet once or twice a week with this shampoo and keep him or her dry and away from rain in between washes. Instructions are included with each purchase.

With only 1 active ingredient, Vetoquinol’s BPO-3 is mild enough for cats and dogs with sensitive skin. It has worked for almost all cat owners that we recommended it to. However, dogs with more severe infections may need a stronger benzoyl peroxide shampoo (check our other listings or DM us).

And if you decide to use Dechra’s LimePlus Dip (a more involved therapy) with your pet, Vetoquinol BPO-3 is the ideal adjunctive therapy, courtesy of BPO’s keratolytic and follicular flushing capabilities. Use it to bathe your pet and it will open up the skin pores and follicular canals for better penetration when you apply the dip. It’ll also keep your pet’s skin dry and free of oil afterward.
