In fact, after the initial release of Cosequin for Cats, Nutramax found that it may be even more effective in cats. So much so that it could produce near-permanent effects that will only require a much lower maintenance dose after the initial administration period of 4-6 weeks.

How much should I give my cat?

Regular-sized cats (up to 5kg) will take 1 capsule a day for 4-6 weeks (2 capsules per day for more than 5kg).

You may notice positive effects in as little as 4 weeks, after which you can reduce the dose to 1 capsule every 2 days because your cat will have built up stores of the nutrients in the body. As your cat’s joints continue to strengthen, you can further reduce the maintenance dose to 1 every 3 days. Some of our customers only give their cats 1 or 2 capsules per week. Many are senior cats more than 15 years old, with a few that had prior bone or joint injuries.

What's up with the soft chews?

The soft chews are a new release. With added omega-3s, they're designed to work like treats.

Is Nutramax Dasuquin better?

Dasuquin adds natural pain relief and Nutramax’s NMX1000 ASUs (avocado soybean unsaponifiables), antioxidants with powerful anti-inflammatory properties, so it may work better for some cats that have severe osteoarthritis. However, arthritis in cats usually does not get as bad as in dogs, and it’s been shown that drinking more water alone can relieve arthritic pain in cats – this is not always the case for dogs and humans.

Cosequin should be good enough for most cats - or get Dasuquin if you want to be absolutely sure.
