Description

This is a study of the Malaysians Indians. The main objective of this research is to find out if the Indians of Malaysia (with the exclusion of Indian Muslims who have been already widely researched (Halimah and Zainab, 2004, David, 2003b) have assimilated cultural norms and values of the larger Malay population and the extent of such enculturation, if any. Chapter 1 will introduce the Malaysian Indians, their demography and history. In chapter 2 the notions of assimilaton will be discussed followed by chapeter 3 which discusses the core values and sociocultural practices of the Indian and Malay communities in Malaysia. Chapter 4 detils the methods of the study and Chapter 5 presents and summarises the findings. In Chapter 6, the findings will be discussed and concluded.
